FRENCH DUAL LINGUIST
S3 COURSE
This course is suitable for anyone who wishes to study two languages.
WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?
Everyone will be studying a language in S3. Language is at the core of thinking. Learners reflect, communicate and develop ideas through language. The course provides learners with the opportunity to develop skills in listening and talking, reading and writing, which are essential for learning, work and life, to use different media effectively for learning and communication and to develop understanding of how language works.
The study of a modern language has a unique contribution to make to the development of cultural awareness, as it provides learners with a means of communicating directly with people from different cultures, enhancing their understanding and enjoyment of other cultures and of their own. They gain insights into other ways of thinking and other views of the world, and therefore develop a much richer understanding of active citizenship.
wHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE?
The course will cover all Level 3 Outcomes and Experiences, progressing on to the Level 4 Experiences and Outcomes. Despite only having two periods a week, pupils will cover the same content as pupils studying French for 3 periods a week, given that all pupils in this class will also be studying another language, their skills will be strong enough to cope with this provided they consolidate all learning at home.
The purpose of these courses is to provide learners with the opportunity to develop reading and listening, talking and writing skills in the modern language and to develop their knowledge of simple or increasingly more complex language in contexts of society, learning, employability and culture.

Fraser - S3
I picked the course so that I could expand my knowledge of while also learning Spanish. I enjoyed learning how to book a hotel because it will be useful in the future, however I didn’t enjoy doing family as we had done it before in S2. I would recommend the course to anyone who multiple languages.

Lucy - S3
I picked Dual Linguist French because I really enjoyed French in S2 and I was quite good at it, but I also wanted to try another language (Spanish). The Dual Linguist course meant I could do them both and still choose the other subjects I wanted to do. I have enjoyed learning about Paris and enjoyed the course despite the class not being too great this year. I would recommend this course for you next year but be prepared to work hard to get the most out of it!
