FRENCH

S3 COURSE

This course is suitable for anyone who is has coped well with the demands of S1/2 French. The course can be combined with either German or Spanish for pupils wishing to study two languages.

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

wHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE?

Everyone will be studying a language in S3.  Language is at the core of thinking. Learners reflect, communicate and develop ideas through language.  The course provides learners with the opportunity to develop skills in listening and talking, reading and writing, which are essential for learning, work and life, to use different media effectively for learning and communication and to develop understanding of how language works.

The study of a modern language has a unique contribution to make to the development of cultural awareness, as it provides learners with a means of communicating directly with people from different cultures, enhancing their understanding and enjoyment of other cultures and of their own. They gain insights into other ways of thinking and other views of the world, and therefore develop a much richer understanding of active citizenship.

The course will cover all Level 3 Outcomes and Experiences, progressing on to the Level 4 Experiences and Outcomes.

The purpose of these courses is to provide learners with the opportunity to develop reading and listening, talking and writing skills in the modern language and to develop their knowledge of simple or increasingly more complex language in contexts of society, learning, employability and culture.

Kooper - S3

I picked this course because I learned French in primary, S1 and S2 and I like learning it. I enjoy listening to French people speak and trying to figure out what they are saying and learning something new every time I go into the classroom. Learning a foreign language also helps you to focus in other subjects and increases your career options. I don’t regret taking this course and I am going to carry on with French in the future. I encourage people who are thinking of taking this course to give it a try!

Andrew - S3

I picked French this year because I had enjoyed it and done well in S1 & S2 so I decided I wanted to continue learning it in S3. French is enjoyable because I find learning languages fun and another good thing is when we get to go to the canteen for translation races! I would recommend people to take French as it is fun and a really good course.
