ACCELERATED GERMAN

S3 COURSE

Accelerated German is an option for pupils who have coped well with French in S1/2 and  who are interested in German language and culture. The quick-paced nature of the course should be noted. Pupils may choose to do French too.

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

wHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE?

Everyone will be studying a language in S3.  Language is at the core of thinking. Learners reflect, communicate and develop ideas through language.  The course provides learners with the opportunity to develop skills in listening and talking, reading and writing, which are essential for learning, work and life, to use different media effectively for learning and communication and to develop understanding of how language works.

The study of a modern language has a unique contribution to make to the development of cultural awareness, as it provides learners with a means of communicating directly with people from different cultures, enhancing their understanding and enjoyment of other cultures and of their own. They gain insights into other ways of thinking and other views of the world, and therefore develop a much richer understanding of active citizenship.

A beginners course initially covering the Level 2 Experiences and Outcomes, but then progressing fairly quickly to the Level 3 and 4 Experiences and Outcomes.

The purpose of these courses is to provide learners with the opportunity to develop reading and listening, talking and writing skills in the modern language and to develop their knowledge of simple or increasingly more complex language in contexts of society, learning, employability and culture.

STUDENT STORIES

Information from pupils who have studied this course as to how they feel it was.

Thomas - S3

I picked fast-track German because I wanted to German as I was not very interested in French or Spanish and I fancied learning something new. I have enjoyed getting the chance to socialise whilst getting lots of work done with like-minded classmates. I don’t have any regrets in choosing this course and I’m glad I did. I would recommend the course for you, but only if you were quite good at languages in S1 & S2.

Kooper - S3

I picked fast-track German because I did a little bit in primary and I enjoyed French in S1 & S2. I enjoy the course because it is full of people who want to learn German and it’s a nice environment to be in. I like the sound of the language and I find it interesting. I have no regrets in taking the course and I plan to do National 5 and Higher in the future. I would recommend this to people as it teaches you about the country, culture and history of German and not just the language!
