 READY FOR WORK     National 2 & 3

The Ready for Work course is an opportunity for pupils in the S5-6 to investigate some of the practical life skills that are needed to make a successful transition from school to the world of work.  Open to pupils who have accessed the alternative curriculum offered by the ASL Faculty, Ready for Work will equip you with skills in communication, time management and organisation, planning for real-life budgeting and the opportunity to undertake a work placement within the local community with an business or organisation that will have an understanding of pupils with additional support needs.

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

This course will be helpful for those pupils who are considering leaving school and heading straight into the workplace.  It will help support pupils who are keen to look at building their skills towards being able to live and work independently, and especially for those who have accessed the support of the Additional Support for Learning Faculty during their time at Meldrum Academy.  The course work and work experience on offer will be tailored to meet the needs of the individual young people taking part, in a small group and supported environment.

wHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE?

Building your skills in communication, team work, problem solving and developing your understanding of the work environment.  You will have the experience to put into practice skills that you may have developed in other Connections/ASL courses such as “Grow and Learn” or Princes Trust – or if you have helped out with the Community Café.

No prior qualifications required, but please note that this course will be aimed at National 2/3 level pupils with a view to offering practical life skills for pupils with ASN.
