The aims of the Course are to enable you to develop:

  • Safe working practices in workshop environments   

  • Practical creativity and problem-solving skills   

  • An understanding of sustainability issues in a practical woodworking context  

  • You will learn to interpret technical drawings, use hand tools, power tools and fixed machinery safely  out timber sections and sheet materials

You will learn to interpret technical drawings, use hand tools, power tools and fixed machinery safely  

The course is split into 3 areas:

  • Flat frame construction 

  • Carcass construction 

  • Machining and finishing

You will develop skills in all of these areas through practical projects in the workshop and classroom theory lessons  

As well as making finished pieces of woodwork you will keep a log book which will improve your planning and evaluation skills.

S3 Design with Practical  

Recommended entry Level 4 (Experiences and Outcomes) AND a reasonable standard of Mathematics and proven interest in Woodworking or at the discretion of the Principal Teacher of Design.
