Are you interested in administration and practical uses of IT and want to develop your administration and IT skills further?  Learners who have completed the course will be able to use the acquired administration and IT related knowledge, understanding and skills at home, in other curricular areas and ultimately in employment.

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

wHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE?

This course will allow learners to develop: 

 

  • IT skills and use them to perform straightforward administrative tasks 

  • A basic understanding of administration in the workplace 

  • Organisational skills in the context of organising and supporting events 

  • Understanding of need for customer care 

 

You will develop a range of skills for learning, life and work.  This will include competency in the use of IT and aspects of literacy, numeracy and thinking skills within a working, business and home environment.   

There are 4 mandatory Units which are internally assessed: 

 

Administrative Practices:   

 

  • Skills in carrying out straight forward administrative tasks to organise and support small-scale events 

  • Basic knowledge of key legislation affecting employees  

  • The key features of good customer care 

  • Skills and qualities required of administrators 

 

IT Solutions for Administrators: 

 

  • Basic skills in using the following IT applications, word processing, spreadsheets and databases in familiar administrative contexts 

 

  • Basic skills in organising and processing simple information in familiar administrative contexts 

 

Communication in Administration: 

 

  • Basic skills in using IT for gathering information from the Internet and Intranet 

  • Basic skills in preparing information using multimedia and desktop publishing  

  • Basic skills in communicating information 

 

Added Value Unit: 

 

  • Learners will undertake practical and administration IT based tasks to organise and support an event 

 

A variety of learning and teaching approaches can be expected within this course including individual working, group work and peer learning.  There will also be the opportunity for active and independent learning through self and peer evaluations, reflecting on learning and making independent decisions.

entry requirements

Although National 4 pupils will have normally studied Administration and IT in S3, this is not necessary. To undertake Administration at National 4 level, pupils are required to have a good understanding of the Admin and IT Technologies outcomes studied in S1 and S2. 

what will you get?

To gain a National 4 Administration and IT qualification you must pass all of the 4 mandatory units.  Units are assessed as pass or fail.
