WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

wHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE?

Higher Mathematics enables pupils to build on their previous mathematical experience in the areas of algebra, geometry, trigonometry and introduces them to elementary calculus.  The study of mathematics provides pupils with many valuable skills and is often very important when seeking employment or entry to higher education.

Pupils will cover a variety of topics under the headings of Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Introduction to Calculus.  The emphasis is very much on using mathematical techniques to solve real life problems.  Weekly homework serves the purpose of consolidating key techniques and processes.

The core textbook is TeeJay Higher Maths pupil book.

STUDENT STORIES

Information from pupils who have studied this course as to how they feel it was.

Logan - S6

I chose higher maths mainly to support my career choices.  It is definitely a big step up from National 5 and therefore requires full commitment.  I would recommend the course because it goes into much finer detail than National 5 and I can definitely see how it would help me in the future.  There is no shame in doing the course over 2 years, because you won’t be alone.

Jess - S5

I chose higher maths since it’s useful to have for uni if you haven’t taken a science at higher.  Most subjects at uni need one science or maths.  It is rewarding once you get used to the individual topics.  Keep all N5 notes since not every aspect is revised and you need to remind yourself of them.
