Studying Higher Art and Design will allow you to develop the skills to work in an industry that employs 1 in 10 people in the UK.

2 hour Question Paper 60 marks consisting 2 mandatory questions on artists and designers studied throughout the course plus four analysis questions on unknown artists and designers

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?
Higher Art and Design will allow you to build upon the skills, knowledge and understanding gained at National 5. It is an essential requirement for entry to many creative courses at College or University as well as a qualification that will show potential employers that you have developed excellent visual awareness, the ability to self evaluate, strong independent thinking, creative problem solving attention to detail and manual dexterity.
wHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE?
You will have greater opportunity for personalisation and choice when selecting themes, materials and techniques for your practical expressive and design folios. You will explore in greater depth, drawing and other visual research from a wide range of sources.
You will be expected to work more independently, developing your confidence making decisions and planning. You will develop a higher level of skill with your chosen materials and techniques.
You will study in greater depth the work of artists and designers developing fluent understanding of subject specific terminology and will be required to apply your understanding to two different genres of expressive art and two design areas in the written exam.

EMPLOYMENT
Art and Design is an essential qualification for many creative careers from traditional visual artists and craftspeople, jewellers, fashion designers, film & television make up set and costume designers to games design, journalism, photography, architecture, product and industrial design. It is also highly valued by many other employers looking for people who can demonstrate visual awareness, attention to detail, critical analysis, self evaluation and problem solving skills.
