S3 SENIOR GROW & LEARN
The Grow and Learn course allows pupils the opportunity to get real, hands on experience as part of a team involved in growing fruit, vegetables and flowers in our Meldrum Academy school garden and polytunnel. Pupils will be invited to consider this course, as it is heavily supported and works best with small numbers of pupils due to the highly practical nature of the work.

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?
This course will be helpful for those pupils who enjoy practical learning activities, and don’t mind being outside in all weathers! Working with a small group, you will develop your skills not only in gardening and growing, but in working as part of a team – so communication, problem solving, listening, following instructions and working safely will be key areas.
wHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE?
Building your skills in communication, team work, problem solving – learning about the environment and developing your understanding of the growing cycle and factors that affect this. You’ll be able to experience what it’s like to grow your own food from seed – and, eventually, be able to taste the finished product. Our previous Grow and Learn classes have grown produce for sale to school staff and also made their own conserves and preserves – jams and chutneys, so we also look at enterprise and business skills too.
