WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?
wHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE?
There are not always clear answers to the choices and challenges that young people encounter. This course creates time and space for young people to learn how they can unlock the potential in themselves and each other.
This qualification is targeted at learners who are involved, or may become involved, in activities in which they would like to take on a leadership role and are motivated to enhance their own personal development, in order to support and help others. The qualification is designed to be flexible and is therefore suitable for learners from a wide range of centres.
Take part in several training sessions throughout the year with Angie Shearer where you will develop skills in communication, teamwork and coaching. You will also be given Child Protection training to ensure you understand what to do if your mentee discloses sensitive information to you or you notice a change in their behaviour/demeanour.
You will then put these skills to the test as you will be paired with a mentee who you will catch up with once a week. You will get to know them, play games, go for a walk, give them advice and most importantly listen to them. Many of our past and current mentors have built positive relationships with their mentees and have enjoyed the training and how useful it is.

STUDENT STORIES
Information from pupils who have studied this course as to how they feel it was.
Brodie - S6
I feel like through peer mentoring I have become a much more effective listener. I feel I can make connections with people quicker and can build up the relationship in a more constructive way. When my mentee comes to me with an issue, I feel I am responsible to help them and when it is resolved it has built up our relationship and gives me a sense of achievement.

Millie - S6
I have thoroughly enjoyed peer mentoring, it has taught me some really good skills and how to handle difficult situations. It has taught me better communication skills and has improved how much I listen to people and retain the information. It’s great when Angie comes in to teach us and does some activities on how to build trust and help your child out with different strategies. I would highly recommend taking peer mentoring, as it doesn’t only help out a child but helps you by developing more skills and improving skills you already have.
