Mathematics engages learners of all ages, interests and abilities. Learning mathematics develops logical reasoning, analysis, problem-solving skills, creativity, and the ability to think in abstract ways. WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

wHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE?

Advanced Higher Mathematics builds on your mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding and enables you to integrate your knowledge of different aspects of the subject.  The course offers depth and breadth of mathematical experience and provides a sound basis for progression to further study in the areas of computing, medicine, accountancy, business management and the sciences.

Pupils will further develop topics studied at Higher level and will learn new ideas such as Mathematical Proof and Binomial Theorem.  The emphasis is very much on using mathematical techniques to solve higher order problems.  Weekly homework serves the purpose of consolidating key techniques and processes.

The core textbooks are Maths in Action Advanced Higher Maths pupil books 1,2 and 3.

STUDENT STORIES

Information from pupils who have studied this course as to how they feel it was.

Isla - S6

I picked maths as I am going on to study Biochem at uni and thought it would be helpful to get into my chosen uni.  I have enjoyed differentiation, partial fractions and sequences & series, but found functions difficult.  It’s generally well taught and surprisingly easy to understand.

Student Behind the Books

Peter - S5 (Early presentation)

I picked this course as it was the natural progression from Higher, but I also find maths very interesting and Advanced Higher is fun as you see all the more advanced concepts come together.  There is a lot of work to cover, but if you enjoy it then it’s not too bad.  I’d recommend this course for the interesting links and relationships it shows.
